VinÃcius Júnior’s four-match ban rules him out of El Clásico against Barcelona
Real Madrid forward VinÃcius Júnior has been handed a four-match suspension following his dismissal during the club’s 1-0 victory over Villarreal, ruling him out of the highly anticipated El Clásico against Barcelona on October 25.
The punishment follows an incident in which the Brazilian winger was sent off for pulling the hair of Villarreal defender Nathan Saliba. He also received an additional two-match suspension for his reaction and protests towards referee Isidro DÃaz de Mera after the red card.
The Spanish football authorities reportedly divided the sanction into two matches for the hair-pulling incident and another two for his conduct towards the match official.
The decision is a significant setback for Real Madrid, as VinÃcius is one of the club’s key attacking players, renowned for his pace, dribbling ability and threat in one-on-one situations.
His absence will be particularly significant in the meeting with Barcelona at Spotify Camp Nou, forcing Real Madrid to adjust their attacking approach without one of their most influential forwards.
VinÃcius is also set to miss three other La Liga fixtures during the suspension, beginning with Real Madrid’s home clash against Sevilla on October 18, followed by the El Clásico on October 25. He will then miss the away matches against Racing Santander on November 1 and Valencia on November 7.
Real Madrid have indicated their intention to appeal the sanction in a bid to secure a reduction in the suspension. The outcome of the appeal will determine whether the Brazilian can return earlier than expected.
For Barcelona, VinÃcius’ absence could provide a tactical advantage by reducing the threat posed by his direct runs and pace down the left flank. However, Real Madrid still have other attacking options, including Kylian Mbappé, meaning Barcelona cannot afford to underestimate their rivals.
The suspension comes at a crucial point in the season, with El Clásico offering both clubs an opportunity to strengthen their position in the La Liga title race. Real Madrid must now find a way to cope without VinÃcius, while Barcelona will look to capitalise on his absence when the two Spanish giants meet.
