‘I’ll leave a serious relationship if I find someone more attractive’ — Ayra Starr
Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has shared her personal view on relationships, saying she would end a serious relationship if she found another man she considered more attractive.
The singer, whose real name is Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, made the comment while responding to a relationship dilemma on her “Ask Ayra Starr” show.
A woman had sought advice over a situation involving attraction to another person while already in a relationship. Responding, Ayra Starr said she would rather end her existing relationship before pursuing someone else than remain romantically involved with two people.
“If I’m in a serious relationship with a guy and then I find another guy more attractive, I would break up with him instead of dating both of them at the same time,” she said.
The singer added that people should give themselves time to understand their feelings before making decisions about their relationships.
“I don’t think you can love two people. I think you need time to yourself so you can figure it out,” she said.
Her comments come amid wider conversations around relationships, attraction, loyalty and the challenges of maintaining healthy boundaries when feelings change.
However, Ayra Starr’s position was presented as her personal response to the situation rather than a rule for relationships generally.
The singer also addressed the importance of maintaining friendships while in a romantic relationship, warning people against cutting off their friends simply because they have found a partner.
According to her, a healthy relationship should allow room for both romantic and platonic relationships.
“You should never abandon your friends because you are in love. Your partner should not isolate you from your friends because you are in a relationship,” she said.
Ayra Starr stressed that there should be a balance between friendship and romantic relationships, encouraging her fans to maintain meaningful connections outside their partnerships.
